IA서버 시장에서 국내 업체에 대한 업계 관계자들의 이같은 견해는 IA서버 시장에서 국내 업체들에 대한 위상을 그대로 보여준다.
국내 업체의 선전을 객관적으로 알 수 있는 지표는 한국IDC의 시장조사 결과<표참조>. 우선 총 1만3556대가 팔린 것으로 조사된 2분기 시장에 기타군으로 분류되는 화이트박스 업체들은 4270대(31.5%)를 판매해 1위를 기록한 한국HP(3914대, 28.9%)를 2.6%포인트로 앞섰다.
기타군에서 대표적인 주자는 인텔코리아의 핵심 파트너사인 이지아이테크놀로지나 나노베이커뮤니케이션즈, 디지털헨지 등. 이들은 2분기 선전에 이어 3분기에서도 판매 대수 기준으로 적게는 30∼40%에서 많게는 150% 이상의 성장을 기대하고 있어 이들 업체의 약진은 당분간 계속될 전망이다.
국산 브랜드의 득세도 볼만하다. 올해 들어 서버 사업을 본격 강화하고 있는 삼성전자는 전체적으로 1000대 정도를 판매해 한국HP나 LGIBM 등 외산 브랜드에 비해 수적으로 크게 뒤졌다. 하지만 올해 들어 2웨이급 이상의 중형 제품에 주력한 결과 2만5000달러 이상의 중형 서버 시장에서는 10% 이상의 시장점유율을 기록하는 등 괄목할 만한 성장을 보였다.
서버·스토리지 사업에만 주력하겠다는 전략을 밝힌 유니와이드테크놀로지는 구조조정 때문에 2분기 판매대수는 1분기(1115대, 유니와이드 자체 집계) 대비 절반 수준에 그쳤지만 3분기에서는 1분기 수준으로 다시 회복되고 향후 계속적인 매출신장을 기대하고 있다.
솔루션 비즈니스로 사업모델을 바꾸면서 IA서버 사업을 강화하고 있는 리눅스코리아 역시 2분기에 작년 동기 대비 70% 이상 성장한 251대를 판매한 것으로 집계됐다.
업계에서는 월드컵으로 인해 이월된 프로젝트와 학교의 노후PC 시장을 IA서버가 일부 대체하는 등 3분기에는 국산 업체의 시장 점유율이 2분기 대비 최소 5∼10% 정도 늘어 날 것으로 보고 있다.
그러나 국내 업체가 IA서버 시장에서 영향력을 계속 확대하기 위해서는 서비스 지원체계의 강화와 특화 솔루션 기반의 비즈니스 모델로 체질을 변화해야 한다는 지적이다.
특히 공공시장과 통신 등 대형 사이트의 시장규모가 축소돼 제조 중심의 중소·중견기업으로 수요처가 이동하고 있는 상황인데다 한국HP나 한국IBM 등 대형 사업자들이 SMB(Small & Medium Bussiness) 전략을 내세워 이 시장 공략에 나서고 있어 안심하기는 이르다는 것.
업계 한 관계자는 “비록 국산 서버 개발 프로젝트는 실패했지만 이로 인해 파생된 인력들이 리눅스 붐을 타고 벤처 형태로 광범위하게 분산돼 있다는 점도 IA 서버 시장에서 국내 업체가 선전할 수 있는 중요한 이유”라며 “단순 박스 유통이 아닌 기술지원과 특화 솔루션 기반의 사업형태에 집중하면 시장을 충분히 리드할 수 있을 것”이라고 지적했다.
